If there was a constant theme at Farnborough, it was that while big programs will survive, the long-term success of the industry lies in the creation of a âlong tailâ of services and solutions to support current aircraft. The services market has been expanding for some time â" power by the hour, full in-service support, flight-hour services, performance-based logistics, and similar offerings. As new programs grow scarcer and customersâ desires for integrated service and support contracts grows stronger, the ability of contractors to win service contracts will in large part rest on their ability to track the product configuration â" from birth through retirement.
